At the top of a long and steep climb through eucalyptus forests, done in by the heat, we stop in the shade for lunch only to realize we have almost nothing to eat.
But Jesika and Daniel have a surprise. For hundreds of kilometres, in a pack where the weight of every item is carefully considered, they have been carrying a fruit cake that was put away in a Yellowknife freezer at Christmas and carefully wrapped and hidden until just such a time as this. Mmmmmarzipan? Christmas cake in July? What an extravagant, priceless and totally unexpected treat. Thanks guys!
